It’s been nearly seven years (and a whole pandemic) since the phenomenal Alwaid (FR) and Aonia (UK) have journeyed the underground metal scene together.
In April of 2024, that will change, with Alwaid stepping foot on UK shores for the first time since 2018.
The bands first met in 2014 at Valkyrian Festival in Bridlington, and their love of melodic metal with symphonic, operatic, and progressive elements brought them together for a UK tour in 2015. The bands played together again in 2016, and in 2018 Aonia joined Alwaid on a tour of France, The Netherlands, and Belgium. In the same year, Alwaid played Aonia’s eponymous AoniaFest at Corporation, Sheffield, while completing another UK tour.
Fate and Covid have kept them apart for too long, and now the distinctive duo of bands excitedly awaits a musical reunion that will be heard around the nation.
From Alwaid, vocalist Marie has this to say about the upcoming tour: ‘”I am so excited about touring with Aonia again! Amazing musicians and talented human beings (or the other way round). It feels like our paths are meant to cross over and over again! Plus, we’ll finally get to share our new music live with all of our friends in the UK who have been supporting us from afar – which is great, but nothing compares to the true raw energy of Britain’s crowds and venues! I plan to make every one of these 4 shows an unforgettable memory.’
Vocalist Melissa from Aonia remarks, ‘I can’t wait to see Alwaid again. They are so amazing at what they do, and their latest album is fantastic. I’ve loved their music and live show for 10 years and can’t wait to hit the road with them once more!’
